ECO-Friendly Fashion

Ecoganik Supima Jersey Surplus Dress in Orchid

Eco-friendly fashion is a term that we are hearing a lot lately. It is an ideal of creating fashion in a way that will protect the environment and our bodies from harmful processes and chemicals. I think this is one trend that is creating a new genre for fashion and accessories. The buzz words associated with these earth conscious efforts are organic, recycled, and ecological footprint. The definitions are below (taken from http://naturalhealthcare.ca):

organic
Produced with the use of feed or fertilizer of plant or animal origin without employment of chemically formulated fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides.
recycled
Textiles that have been discarded by consumers, retailers or charitable organizations, which have undergone a discriminating process of sorting, grading and separation into waste-free products suitable for reuse.
ecological footprint
The calculation of the amount of natural resources required by an individual or group of individuals (plants, animals, nations) to sustain itself.
These ideas have been transforming the clothing industry. Eco-Friendly Fashion Shows are popping up everywhere showcasing the more style conscious designs. There are now plenty of options available for the green gal. Mass producing companies like Levi's, GAP, 7for all Mankind, American Apparel and more have introduced their eco-friendly lines. And celebrities such as Natalie Portman, Sheryl Crow, and Stella McCartney are coming out with eco-apparel lines as well. You can even find eco-friendly items at Target and Walmart. This is more than a mere trend and healthy for our planet and bodies too.
